Ventr — Privacy Policy
ventr Labs Inc. · Vancouver, BC, Canada
Last updated: 2026-05-31 · Effective: upon your acceptance
The short version
- We collect what we need to run Ventr: your account, your conversations, your settings, and minimal safety-event records.
- We use a small set of service providers (AI, hosting, payments) to operate the service. Some are in the United States, so your data crosses borders.
- We don't sell your data, don't advertise to you, and don't read your conversations as a matter of routine.
- You can see, and permanently delete, your data at any time.
- Questions: privacy@joinventr.com.
The full version follows.
1. Who is responsible for your data
ventr Labs Inc. ("Ventr," "we," "us") is the organization responsible for the personal information you provide when using the Ventr app. We're based in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
Privacy contact: privacy@joinventr.com
2. What we collect
You give us:
- Account details — your email address, a password, and a display name (which defaults to the part of your email before the "@" if you don't provide one). If you sign in through a social provider, an avatar URL may also be stored. We do not collect phone number, date of birth, or demographic information.
- Conversation content — the words you speak or type during a session, and Ventr's responses.
- Voice audio — when you speak, your audio is sent once to our speech-to-text provider to be converted to text, and is then discarded. We do not store your voice recordings — only the resulting text becomes part of your conversation. Audio is held only in memory for that single transcription request; it is never written to storage, a database, or our logs.
- Settings & preferences — tone choice (gentle / calm / direct), selected voice, and similar.
- Subscription/billing status — whether you have an active subscription. Payment card details, if any, are handled by our payment provider (Paddle) and not stored by us. During the free beta, no payment information is collected.
We generate:
- Safety-event records — if Ventr's crisis-detection or boundary features trigger, we record that an event of a given category occurred, when, and whether a resource was shown. These records do not store the content of your message — only metadata about the event.
- Basic technical/operational data — timestamps, session identifiers, and error codes needed to run and debug the service. We keep conversation content out of our application logs.
We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.
3. How we use your information
We use your information only to:
- provide and operate Ventr (sign you in, transcribe your voice, generate and speak responses, remember your settings);
- keep the service safe (operate crisis/boundary safeguards, investigate safety incidents);
- fix problems and improve the product;
- handle billing where applicable;
- meet legal obligations.
We do not: sell or rent your personal information; use it for third-party advertising; or build a hidden profile of you for targeting. We do not use your conversations to make automated decisions that have legal or similarly significant effects on you.
4. Service providers and international transfers
We rely on a small number of service providers ("processors") that handle your data on our behalf, only to deliver Ventr:
| Provider | Purpose | Location |
|---|---|---|
| OpenAI | Speech-to-text and text-to-speech (we connect directly) | United States |
| Lovable AI Gateway → Google Gemini | Generating Ventr's conversational replies and running the safety classifier; reached through Lovable's gateway (a pass-through to Google's Gemini model), not a direct Google connection | United States / global |
| Supabase | Database, authentication, hosting | United States (AWS us-east-1) |
| Cloudflare | Hosting / content delivery | Global |
| Paddle | Payments (not used in free beta) | International |
International transfer: Some of these providers store or process data in the United States and other countries, whose privacy laws differ from Canada's and whose authorities may be able to access data under their laws. By using Ventr, you consent to your personal information — including conversation content — being processed outside Canada for these purposes. We use providers we consider to maintain appropriate safeguards.
Model training: We have opted out of having your conversations used to train AI models. Your voice audio is processed by OpenAI, which does not train on data sent through its API. Your conversation text is sent through Lovable's AI gateway to Google's Gemini model.
5. Who can see your conversations
Your conversations are stored on our systems, and an administrator (currently the founder) has the technical ability to access them in limited circumstances — to investigate a safety incident, diagnose a bug you've reported, or comply with a legal obligation. We treat such access as exceptional.
We disclose individual conversation data to others only: (a) to the processors in Section 4, as needed to run Ventr; (b) with your consent or at your request; or (c) where required by law.
6. How we protect your information
- Data is stored in databases protected by row-level security, so each account's data is isolated.
- Access to production systems is limited.
- Safety-event records are made immutable to preserve an honest audit trail and cannot store conversation content.
No system is perfectly secure, and we can't guarantee absolute security — but we design conservatively, especially given the sensitivity of what people share with Ventr.
7. How long we keep your information
We keep your information for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account (Section 8), we permanently delete your data.
We do not delete your conversations on a fixed schedule, and we do not limit Ventr to a fixed "memory window." Ventr may draw on a small number of your recent conversations to provide continuity in how it responds; it does not build a long-term profile of you. Your conversations remain available to you until you choose to delete them or delete your account.
8. Your rights and choices
You can, at any time:
- Access the personal information we hold about you — email privacy@joinventr.com;
- Correct inaccurate information;
- Delete everything — from Settings, permanently delete your account and all associated data (conversations, settings, safety-event records, sign-in). This is irreversible.
- Withdraw consent / stop using Ventr at any time;
- Complain — to us first (privacy@joinventr.com), and if unsatisfied, to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (priv.gc.ca) or the BC Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner (oipc.bc.ca).
If you have an active paid subscription, we may ask you to cancel it before account deletion completes.
9. Children
Ventr is not intended for, or directed to, anyone under 18. We don't knowingly collect their information. If you believe a minor has used Ventr, contact privacy@joinventr.com and we'll delete the data.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as Ventr evolves. If we make a material change, we'll take reasonable steps to let beta participants know (e.g. by email or an in-app notice). The "last updated" date at the top reflects the current version.

terms of service
using ventr
Provider: ventr Labs Inc. (Vancouver, BC, Canada) · beta-appropriate terms, consistent with the beta consent doc and privacy policy above.
1. Agreement to these terms
By creating an account or using Ventr, you agree to these Terms of Service. If you don't agree, please don't use Ventr. During the private beta, these Terms apply alongside the Beta Participant Consent & Agreement; if the two conflict, the Beta Consent doc governs for beta participants.
2. Who can use Ventr
You must be at least 18 years old and able to enter into a binding agreement. Ventr is currently available by invitation only, for the private beta.
3. What Ventr is (and the important boundary)
Ventr is a voice-first reflection app — a private space to talk through what you're feeling. Ventr is not therapy, counselling, medical or mental-health advice, diagnosis, treatment, or emergency or crisis services, and is not a substitute for a qualified professional. It is AI-powered software that can be wrong, and you should not rely on it for any decision where being wrong would matter.
In an emergency or crisis, contact 911, or 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, call or text), or the resources in the Beta Consent doc / Privacy Policy. Do not rely on Ventr to recognize or respond to a crisis.
4. Your account
- You're responsible for keeping your sign-in credentials secure and for activity under your account.
- Provide accurate information when you sign up.
- Tell us promptly (privacy@joinventr.com) if you believe your account has been accessed without your permission.
5. Acceptable use
When using Ventr, you agree not to:
- use it for anything illegal, or to harm others;
- attempt to break, overload, reverse-engineer, scrape, or gain unauthorized access to the service or its systems;
- use it to generate or distribute unlawful, harmful, or abusive content;
- misrepresent Ventr as therapy, medical care, or a professional service to others;
- resell, sublicense, or commercially exploit the service or your beta access.
We may suspend or end your access if you breach these rules, or to protect the service or other people.
6. Your content
- You own what you put in. The conversations and content you create remain yours.
- You grant us a limited licence to process your content only as needed to operate Ventr and as described in the Privacy Policy above (for example, transcribing your voice, generating responses, and storing your conversation on your account). This licence ends when you delete the content or your account.
- We don't claim ownership of your conversations, and we choose providers and settings intended to keep them private and out of AI model training.
7. Our content and brand
Ventr, the "ventr" name and wordmark, the app, its design, and its underlying software are owned by ventr Labs Inc. and protected by intellectual-property laws. These Terms don't give you any right to use our branding without permission.
8. Beta nature; changes and availability
Ventr is provided as an experimental beta. We may change, suspend, or discontinue any part of it at any time, and we don't guarantee it will be available, uninterrupted, or error-free. We may also update these Terms; if we make a material change we'll take reasonable steps to notify beta participants.
9. Disclaimers
Ventr is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that Ventr will be accurate, reliable, secure, available, or error-free, or that its responses are appropriate for your situation.
10. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, ventr Labs Inc. and its directors, officers, and contributors will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, arising out of or relating to your use of (or inability to use) Ventr.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, our total aggregate liability arising out of or relating to Ventr will not exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim (which is CAD $0 during the free beta), or (b) CAD $100.
Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes liability that cannot be limited or excluded under applicable law (including, in some jurisdictions, liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud).
11. Termination
You can stop using Ventr and delete your account at any time from Settings. We can suspend or end your access if you breach these Terms, or if we discontinue the beta. Sections that by their nature should survive (content ownership, disclaimers, limitation of liability, governing law) survive termination.
12. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of British Columbia and the federal laws of Canada applicable there, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. You agree to the courts of British Columbia for any disputes, subject to any non-waivable rights you have under applicable consumer law.

Beta period
Ventr is free during the private beta — we don't collect payment information and we don't charge beta participants, so there is nothing to bill, and nothing to refund, during the beta.

Ventr Private Beta — Participant Consent & Agreement
ventr Labs Inc. · Vancouver, BC, Canada
Last updated: 2026-05-31 · For: Ventr private beta participants
How you accept: by ticking the "I've read and agree to the beta terms" box at first sign-in (timestamped), or — for the initial invitees — by replying "I agree" to the invitation email. Either is a valid acceptance.
Plain-language summary (the honest version, in 30 seconds)
- Ventr is a space to talk through what you're feeling. It is not therapy, medical care, diagnosis, or emergency help.
- If you're in danger or crisis, Ventr is not the right tool — call 911, or 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, call or text). More resources below.
- It's experimental. You're one of the first ten people to use it. Things may break.
- Your conversations are yours. They're stored on your account so Ventr can work. We don't read them as a matter of routine — but a small number of providers (AI, hosting) process them to run the service, and an administrator can access them if we need to investigate a safety issue or a bug you report. Full detail below.
- You're in control. You can stop any time, and you can permanently delete everything from Settings whenever you want.
- You can say no, any time, for any reason — including after you've started.
The sections below are the full version. If anything here is unclear, ask Fraser before you agree.
1. Who we are
Ventr is made by ventr Labs Inc., a Canadian company based in Vancouver, British Columbia. In this document, "we," "us," and "Ventr" mean ventr Labs Inc. and the Ventr app.
Questions, concerns, or requests about your data, and general beta support: fraser@joinventr.com.
2. What Ventr is — and what it is not
Ventr is a voice-first reflection app: a private place to talk through what you're feeling and find some clarity. You speak (or type); Ventr responds and reflects back.
Ventr is not, and does not provide:
- therapy, counselling, or psychotherapy;
- medical or mental-health advice, diagnosis, or treatment;
- crisis intervention or emergency services;
- a substitute for a qualified human professional.
Ventr is software powered by artificial intelligence. It can misunderstand you, get things wrong, or respond in a way that doesn't fit. It has no professional training, no clinical judgment, and no ability to help in an emergency. Please don't rely on it for any decision where being wrong would matter — health, legal, financial, or safety decisions included.
3. In an emergency or crisis
If you are in immediate danger, or thinking about harming yourself or someone else, please reach a human now:
- 911 — emergency services (North America)
- 988 — Suicide & Crisis Lifeline (call or text; US & Canada)
- Crisis Text Line — text HOME to 741741 (US/Canada)
- National Domestic Violence Hotline — 1-800-799-7233
- Outside North America: findahelpline.com — a free directory of crisis lines by country
Ventr includes a safety feature that may show these resources if it detects crisis-related language. That feature is a backstop, not a safety net you should rely on — it can miss things, and it can occasionally appear when it isn't needed. Your safety does not depend on Ventr noticing. If you need help, reach one of the resources above directly.
4. This is an experimental beta
You're using an early, unfinished version of Ventr. That means:
- features may change, break, or be removed;
- responses may be imperfect, slow, or occasionally off-tone;
- there may be bugs, including ones we haven't found yet;
- the service may be interrupted or unavailable at times.
By taking part, you understand Ventr is provided "as is" for testing, and you're choosing to try it knowing it's not a finished product.
5. What we collect and why
To run Ventr, we collect and store:
- Account information — your email address, a password, and a display name (so you can sign in).
- Your conversations — what you say or type, and Ventr's responses. To turn your voice into text, your audio is sent once to a speech-to-text provider and then discarded; Ventr's spoken replies are generated by a text-to-speech provider (details in Section 6).
- Your settings — such as the tone you choose (gentle / calm / direct) and your selected voice.
- Safety-event records — if Ventr's crisis or boundary features trigger, we log that an event happened (category, timestamp, whether a resource was shown). These records do not contain the content of your conversation — only that an event of a certain type occurred.
- Subscription status — for the beta this is free/comped, so no payment information is collected from you.
We use this only to operate Ventr, keep it safe, fix problems, and improve it based on how the beta goes. We do not sell your data, and we do not show you advertising.
6. Where your data goes (service providers)
Ventr can't run entirely on its own. A small set of trusted providers process your data on our behalf, strictly to deliver the service:
- Speech-to-text and text-to-speech — OpenAI (United States).
- The conversational AI — Google's Gemini model, accessed through the Lovable AI Gateway.
- Hosting, database, and authentication — Supabase and Cloudflare.
- Payments — Paddle (not used during the free beta).
Some of these providers are located in, or process data in, the United States and other countries. That means your information — including conversation content — may be processed outside Canada and may be subject to the laws of those countries. By taking part, you consent to this cross-border processing.
Training: We have opted out of having your conversations used to train AI models. Your voice audio goes to OpenAI, which does not train on it; your conversation text is processed through Lovable's AI gateway to Google's Gemini, and we have exercised Lovable's training opt-out, so it is not used to train Lovable's models. See the Privacy Policy for full detail.
7. Who can see your conversations
We've built Ventr so that reading your conversations is not part of how we operate it. We don't monitor sessions, and there's no routine review of what you say.
To be fully honest with you: the conversations are stored on our systems, and an administrator (currently the founder) technically has the ability to access them — for example, to investigate a safety incident, diagnose a bug you've reported, or respond to a legal requirement. We treat that access as a last resort, not a habit.
We will not share your individual conversations with anyone else, except:
- with the service providers in Section 6, only as needed to run Ventr;
- if you ask us to, or give permission;
- if required by law.
8. Your control over your data
- Stop any time. You can end a session, stop using Ventr, or leave the beta whenever you want — no explanation needed.
- Delete everything. From Settings, you can permanently delete your account and all associated data — conversations, settings, safety-event records, and your sign-in. This is irreversible.
- Access your data. You can ask us what we hold about you and we'll provide it. Email fraser@joinventr.com.
9. How long we keep things
We keep your data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, your data is permanently removed as described in Section 8. We do not delete your conversations on a fixed schedule, and we do not limit Ventr to a fixed "memory window" — your conversations stay available to you until you choose to delete them.
10. About the beta (a small ask)
This is a private, pre-launch beta. We'd appreciate it if you'd keep it reasonably private — please don't post screenshots, recordings, or public reviews while it's in beta. This isn't a strict legal NDA; it's a courtesy that protects unfinished work. If you want to tell a close friend about it, that's fine — just check with Fraser first.
11. Your feedback
If you share feedback, we may use it to improve Ventr. We won't attribute anything to you publicly (e.g. as a testimonial) without your permission. Any product improvements that come from your feedback belong to ventr Labs Inc.
12. Eligibility
To take part, you confirm that you are at least 18 years old and that you're taking part voluntarily.
13. No warranty; limitation of liability
Ventr is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose. We don't guarantee Ventr will be accurate, available, uninterrupted, or error-free.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, ventr Labs Inc. is not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the beta. This is a free, experimental beta provided for testing purposes.
This section does not, and is not intended to, exclude or limit our responsibility to operate Ventr's safety features in good faith, or any liability that applicable law does not allow us to exclude.
14. Governing law
This agreement is governed by the laws of British Columbia and the federal laws of Canada applicable there.
15. Your acknowledgement
By agreeing, you confirm that you have read and understood this document, and in particular that you understand:
- Ventr is not therapy, medical care, or emergency support;
- in a crisis you will contact the resources in Section 3, not rely on Ventr;
- Ventr is experimental and provided "as is";
- your conversation data is processed by the providers in Section 6, including outside Canada;
- you can stop and delete everything at any time.
Accepted by ticking the in-app agreement box at first sign-in (timestamped), or by replying "I agree" to your invitation email.
